Current Exhibition – June & July 2020

BAMAL

A collection of paintings and photographs exploring our connections to Earth (BAMAL) through the work of contemporary indigenous artist Jaz.

Using Air-Ink (ink made from air pollution), and many culturally significant media, local indigenous artist, visual arts teacher, and Wayapa Wuurrk Practitioner, Jaz, has created a deeply personal, socially and environmentally aware experience for the Art Bar Kiama this June and July.

Including an immense artwork entitled BAMAL made from Air-Ink and Red Centre paint, Jaz has created three series of artworks that celebrate BAMAL (Earth) elements. Incorporating work on salvaged screen-printing screens painted using dried native foliage and gunanguyirngai (echnida) quill; and skilfully photographed images of her most treasured belongings, her personal collection of TOTEMS gifted to her from the BAMAL (earth).

Due to Covid-19 trading restrictions there will sadly not be an official opening for this exhibition, instead BAMAL will be on show for 8 weeks to allow more people to experience Jaz’s creations.

‘BAMAL’ at the Art Bar Kiama from 4 June to 2 August 2020

Combining a passion for all things creative, the Art Bar features changing bi-monthly exhibitions from local, national and international artists, as well as our own resident artist Jamie Cole. Our mission is to support and exhibit contemporary artists whose work reflects the vibrancy and colour of their world; and to provide an engaging and dynamic space for artists, collectors and the community to come together.
